Areola Nipple Tattoo
Medical and Cosmetic
Areola tattooing restores the areola colour back to its natural appearance using specialist KBpro 3D techniques to achieve a natural symmetry and a more realistic result.
Why have nipple-areola tattooing?
The procedure improves the appearance cosmetically by creating a nipple and areola that match the existing nipple. For double mastectomies, the therapist will create the areolas and nipples to the clients requests.
How can I prepare for nipple-areola tattooing?
Once you have attended your first face to face consultation with Katherine and wish to continue with the treatment, you will be asked to sign a consent form. This states that you agree to have the treatment and you understand what it involves. You will also be asked to consent to having pre and post- procedure photographs and will confirm the next available appointment.
What happens during nipple-areola tattooing?
Katherine will discuss the colour, placement, areola size and shape. The areola and nipple will be temporary drawn on so that it perfectly matches the pigment shades to your skin. This is to make sure the correct style and colours are chosen and the finished result is as natural as possible. When you are happy with the colour and size, Katherine will skilfully infuse the colour into your skin while carefully tracing over the pre-drawn template applying the pigment to the skin using a pen-like needling device.
The pigment is built up with different colours and to give the illusion of protrusion for the 3D nipple reconstruction effect. The procedure will take approximately 2 hours to complete but can vary with each individual. A medical dressing will be applied to the area which you wear under your clothes for up to 5 days.
The area around your treatment may be slightly red for 36 hours.
Is the procedure painful?
Breast reconstruction surgery can cause the area to become numb so no pain will normally be felt. If the area has any sensation, a numbing gel will be applied to the area before and during the procedure.
Will I have a follow-up appointment?
You will require a follow-up six weeks after the initial treatment. At this appointment, further pigment will be added if necessary.
The tattoo ink fades over time so a colour renewal is needed normally after 3 years.
How Long Will It Take?
KBpro 3D Areola tattooing is completed in 1 session and your appointments may take up to 2.5 hours per areola.
What risks are associated with Areola tattooing?
Not achieving an exact colour match.
Infection post-procedure if aftercare is not followed.
Scarring.
Slight skin irritation or allergy to pigment (a patch test can be carried out).
Bleeding – a small amount from the needle puncturing skin.
Patch testing:-
It is very unlikely that you would develop an allergic reaction to the pigments used. However, if you have any known allergies, Katherine may advise you to undergo a skin allergy test at least 24 hours before carrying out the procedure. A small amount of the pigment is placed behind the ear, If a reaction occurs within 24 hours post patch test it may not be safe to undergo areola tattooing.
